According to legends, teak wood is not any different from men, there are good ones and bad ones.

Beliefs are that Teak will affect both fortune / luck and the safety of the building and house owner.

Uger-uger: Selection of teak wood that comes from trees from wich the branches are two old. It is said to bring peace and tranquility to the people living in it’s inner walls. This type will be used as for Doors of the house and or high fence walls (cepuri) or called regol.

Trajumas: Selection of teak wood, that comes from a tree with three branches. It is said to flood the owner with provisions (mbanyu mill). This selection of wood would be suitable for the large frame of the building, located on the top for the roof.

Pandawa: Selection from a teak tree with five ramifications. As the it’s Indonesian name suggestes: strong and brave. Used for the main pillars it was believed to act as guardians / keepers also as teacher.

Mulo: Selection of teak wood from the trees surrounded by moist or water. Wood called “Mulo” will give fresh feeling to the owners, also desire towards the home. Wood such as this one would also be used for the main mast (teacher or saka). Note that the quality of “Mulo” remains below the “Pandawa” type, mentionned previously.

Tunjung: Selection of teak wood from the trees that are as big to nest a large eagle. Believed to bring higher social status, attract friendship and love from the people and subsequently many provisions and stability.

Munggang: Selection of teak wood from a teak tree that grows above ground level (gumuk or puntuk). It is used to build the “Regol” or gate. The beliefs and functions of this particualr type of selection does not vary with “Tunjung” one, mentionned previously.

Pickaback: Selection of teak wood from a teak tree that grows as a shoot. Believed to provide wealth to the owner. This selection was used for the building of the framework.

Gedeg: Selection of teak wood from a teak tree with a protrusion or “gembolo” . The beliefs and functions of this particualr type of selection does not vary with “pickaback” one, mentionned previously.

Gadu: Selection of teak wood from a teak tree named millstone (gandik or pipisan). Believed to provide lots of live stock and a safe and prosperous life to the owner. This type is suitable for the building of live stock enclosures.
