Methods didn't work ... instinct did - 
I was expecting this DVD to be an end-to-end coverage to make sure babies are happy. What I noticed was, it did not cover the basic stuffs (Is baby hungry? Is baby wet or poopy? Is baby warm & toasty?) ... but instead he jumped straight to his Basic 5 "S"'s. His book probably covered it better but I didn't bother to look there.
The only thing I learned from this DVD is a swaddling technique, which there are umpteenth ways to swaddle you can learn online, in origami-like books, or your pediatrician. Hence the additional star to 2-stars.
This DVD is probably sensational for those that have "fussy" newborns. There's nothing fussy about babies, they are just trying to tell you something. Those 5 "S" techniques probably draw the babies out of those core problems they are communicating, like an allergy to something, or a poky linen on the shoulder, or trying to tell you he/she is too cold, etc.
My limited experience says that all you need in parenting a happy baby is to be instinctive, calm, super patient and responsive. Using the basic "Is baby ...?" question was more effective than the 5 "S". Not Dr Karp's techniques ... sorry. I tried his technique in the middle of the night (two nights) and it got worse until we figured out the baby was just saying "turn down the A/C and swaddle me twice!"

I have an 11 week old baby. We've had this DVD for over a month now it is has saved our lives! He has been slightly colicky and fussy since we brought him home from the hospital. I had about 4-5 people recommend this DVD and as soon as we watched it, it worked on our son! I have since recommended it to other new parents and they have said the same thing. I am looking forward to buying the toddler version when my son gets to that stage. Every pediatrician should teach new parents this method.

This DVD is so helpful for figuring out what to do with a fussy baby. It eased my stress and helped both my boys get the soothing they needed. I have given it as a gift to first time parents several times now.

Our daughter was 5 weeks old and wouldn't sleep ever for more than 1/2 hour and was cranky fussy all the time! I was at the end of my ropes and then I went to the mailbox and the video was finally there. Within 20 minutes she was sound asleep, swaddled in her swing. My husband got home 2 hours later and was amazed, we thought she didn't like to be swaddled, we just didn't know how to do it! She now sleeps only in her swing but she actually sleeps, for about 7 hours a night and good naps during the day:)We got it 4 weeks ago. Definately worth the money:)

This product was extremely helpful for my infant grandson and his parents. When he was fussy and difficult to get to sleep they swaddled him and went through the steps. It worked to calm him and gave his parent some peace, too. The video is most helpful because you can watch the strategies being implemented. Every parent should have these skills in their "tool kit". I also highly recommend this product for other infant caregivers.
