A great book -

I like Dr Miller's no nonsense and common sense views and opinions. He's informative, I also recommend his book on foal imprinting.
Just what I was looking for... -
I thought this book was excellant, and was just what I was looking for. If you are looking for a "HOW TO" book, this is not it. But if you are already experienced, and looking for a book to more understand how a horse thinks, reacts, and to get you better into that frame of mind so that your reactions become more natural to the horse, this book is for you. Its a keeper and worth rereading sections as necessary for review. I really enjoyed reading it!

One of the best overviews and explanations out there -
I'm not often moved to write reviews, but this book deserves a thoughtful commentary. I've owned horses for more than 40 years. I've read almost all of the clinicians and natural horsemanship books out there. I've attended many of their clinics. In hindsight, I wish I'd started with this book first. Dr. Miller does an excellent job of putting the various theories in perspective, and includes important historical background.
However, what I found absolutely life-changing in my own relationship with my horses (and my fellow humans) was his chapter on chimpanzees. If you read no other, read this one. You will understand your own impulses and impasses to communication far better afterward.
If you're looking for a feel-good, "horses are great" story-romance type of read, this isn't it. But if you are a true student of horses and human-horse communication, this book deserves your time and attention.
