The #1 New York Times bestseller--now in paperback! Top-rated radio personality Laura Ingraham issues a call to arms in Power to the People--a plea to reinvigorate our birthright of liberty, to reconnect to our American heritage, and to revive our commitment to traditional, conservative principles. Ingraham exposes the threats we face from an emboldened cultural Left, global dogmatists, science worshippers, and politicians who spend more time on their hair than on constituency outreach. She also offers real-world solutions for how we can demand more from our leaders and ourselves. Power to the People will not just rile up Ingraham's millions of fans, it will also incite readers to do their part to protect the country that we love. "It is ours to lose," she writes, "and there are many at home and abroad who are more than willing to take it from us. Let's get to work."

Laura Ingraham's powerfully truthful book "Power to the People" is a must for anyone who believes that American society is falling apart today. If you are wondering where are moral values and our ethics have all gone, you MUST read this book! Laura is very insightful and honest in her critique of American politics, celebrities, and our legal system.
I strongly recommend this book for all working class Americans who believe that our country is headed down the wrong path. God bless our country!

An Impassioned Call To Get Off The Sofa And Get Involved! -

After reading the reviews, the so-called reviews, and a few of the nasty personal attacks, I knew this book, Power to the People, by Laura Ingraham had really hit an emotional note with many of its readers--both positive and negative. Except for the obvious throwback 1960ish book title, I did my best to otherwise come at this book without the biases and comparisons many of the reviewers couldn't seem to stay away from. For me, it helped focus and consider what Ingraham was saying, rather than what many think she stands for.
Right from the Introduction, Ingraham gives the reader a clear picture of why she thought the book was important to write, who she was writing to--the American people, and what she wants them to do in response--get involved. Her straightforward, no-nonsense, and sometimes biting approach is what often draws the criticism, and Ingraham has certainly had her share of criticism--justified or not.
I found her book very personal, and at the same time a constant challenge for Americans to wake up, get informed, and take a good hard look at what is happening in our society. For those who think the purpose of government is to provide all our wants, cradle to casket, will naturally hate this book. Sadly, our refusal to listen to another viewpoint has hurt this country terribly. The respectful exchange of ideas is one of the things that made this country great. But that's not the way we are today--just read some of the reviews of this book if you want to see how socio-politically polarized this country has become.
For the big-government people, the bigger the government, the more involved government is in running the affairs of society, the better. Unfortunately, an historical look at countries that had this kind of government--Germany, Italy, and Russia just to name a few, should give us a glimpse of where we are headed if we don't stand up and take back our country. Many think countries like Canada, England, and the rest of Europe are what we need to be. Take a close look and you will see each of these countries is already neck-deep in a nanny-state style of government--and are rapidly approaching national bankruptcy, hardcore Socialism or Communism, even as I write this review. It's only a step away.
Ingraham's statement, "Whether you know it or not, many of the most inportant choices of your life are being made for you. They are being made by out-of-touch politicians, agenda-driven edu-crats, haughty life-tenured judges, and executives in a polluted entertainment industry--all of whom believe they know better than you." really says it all!
In her book, Ingraham touches on a number of important topics--our families, our porous boarders that have led to an immigration nightmare, our national security, our out-of-control judges and school boards, a call to return to the states and local communities running their own affairs, America drowning in smut and pornography, and much more. Though Ingraham gets a little edgy in her presentation at times, these aren't trivial issues and her passion for America definitely comes through. These issues affect every household in America.
The part of Ingraham's book I found most interesting and informing was her call to return the major job of governing to the states, counties, and local communities. In essence, Ingraham trumpets a call to return to the Federalism of our forefathers. This would, of course, require the reading and studying of the Federalist Papers in our homes and schools--just like during the time of our forefathers.
Many of Ingraham's critics accuse her of wanting to turn back the clock to the good-old-days--the days of Buddy Holly, poodle skirts, a locally run government and an essential federal government large enough to spend its time establishing justice, insuring domestic tranquility, providing for the common defense, promoting the general welfare and securing the blessings of liberty to all Americans and their posterity (I bet this sound familiar--it's right out to the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution). She probably would agree with this--except for the poodle skirts!
Ingraham's book also includes a substantial section of End Notes and a Subject Index. Criticism or not, she does solid job of supporting her positions with cited references.
I was pleasantly surprised with the final chapter. Ingraham lets her professional persona down and lets the reader get a glimpse of the really personal side of Laura Ingraham. Specifically, she shares her personal struggle with cancer--and becoming a cancer survivor. I enjoyed the book a lot. I enjoyed the challenges and have become more involved in my own community. I enjoyed getting to know a little more about the real Laura Ingraham the most. I highly recommend this powerful and well-written book--to liberals, independents, and conservatives alike. If you have to chew on what Ingraham says a little longer to really understand what she is saying, do it! It won't leave a mark, and your hair won't spontaneously burst into flames either. I promise.
This is clearly her best book to date.
Laura Ingraham-power to the elite -

Laura Ingraham's power to the people is actually only certain people. It is the people who believe that gay men and women are 2nd class citiziens. The people who want America one or two steps away from religious law. Laura Ingraham believes that when courts protect the rights of individuals they are inventing rights. Rights are fundamental to Americans and the government has the obligation to show why a right doesn't exist, not the individual.
Ingraham's "Power": Over Yourself Before Your Opponent -

Laura Ingraham has long been an advocate of conservatism, which she defines as the judicious use of an increasing awareness that citizens have rights to power that supercede power rights that the federal government inevitably attempts to muster. In POWER TO THE PEOPLE, Ingraham explodes the myth that the phrase "power to the people" somehow means that the democratic left uses that power for the benefit of this nation's citizenry. Ingraham covers a wide spectrum of issues, all of which the left claim as their own: educational indoctrination of matters of morality and sexuality that the left feels takes precedence over the rights of parents to object or even to be aware of; unelected judges who use their courts as bully pulpits to effect social change in a manner that they see fit even if those who are affected by these fiats may not agree; the misreading of key elements of the constitution that permit an increasing proliferation of pornography; and the left's assertion that global warming is here and, unless the federal government assumes unheard of power over the lives of all Americans, that this planet is doomed to roast under steadily climbing temperatures.
What these disparate issues have in common is that they all involve the collectivization of power by the federal government, and as that government grows in power it also grows in the arrogance that accompanies those at the center who see the world through tinted lenses that imbue the wearers with a Holy Mission that they and they alone know what is best and right for all concerned. Ingraham counters with a belief that began with the Founders--and has come under merciless attack by the modern democratic party who deem the Founders as hopelessly naive--that the only way to ensure the ongoing rights of citizens to seek redress from the central government is to make that central government responsive to queries from its citizens. What makes Ingraham's book so powerful is the list of suggestions that the Ordinary Joe can carry out to let the Powers That Be know that they are being watched and judged. The key, she notes, is involvement: in school board meetings, in letter blitzes to uncaring record moguls who persist in marketing misogynistic lyrics to impressionable youth, and a general sense that involvement is a right and a responsibility that the secular left may ignore only at its own peril. In POWER TO THE PEOPLE, Lauras Ingraham urges her readers to continue the Good Fight, knowing that a failure to get involved in matters that lead to a massive power grab by those least likely to use that power for the benefit of each citizen must lead to that power's flowing in the wrong direction. The result, then, will turn the United States into a clone of France, Canada, Germany, and England. The recent inauguration of Barack Obama as president suggests the timeliness of her warnings.

Why can't we have conservatism without religion???? -

I agree with about 75 percent of what Laura Ingraham says - up until the chapter on religion. Is it necessary to be a Christian in order to be a conservative? I am somewhat socially conservative, but I am one of those "spiritual-nonreligious" people (yes, this is one of what Ingraham labels "lame" excuses for not being a Christian). I am consistently put off by the inbreeding between conservatism and evangelism. Is it not possible to be a secular conservative - or has the conservative movement become a theocracy?
Laura, your political views are terrific, but please keep your religious beliefs to yourself.
