I consider myself an intermediate to experienced crocheter...this book has wonderful, easy afghans which would be best for beginner to intermediate crocheters. The combination of the newer types of yarn is great.
50 Sensational Crochet Afghans book -
There are some spectular patterns in this book. The color combinations are very unusual on some but there should be something for everyone's taste.
little new here - 
This is a well produced book of redone and reworked patterns. There were only two patterns that I had not seen before, the cover and one other. the rest were done in new colors (and most were not an improvement) or with a trim changed. Certainly not enough to validating creating a new book. anyone with an ounce of imagination can work a pattern in a different color or with a different trim, so, no I can't recommend this book if you have more than three other crochet books in your collection.
The other issue is that most of the patterns in this are unattractive or just plain boring, there is little to really stir the creative juices, and some brought out all the worst aspects of crochet.
That said I find the cover pattern excellent and exciting, it's too bad that the rest of the book didn't live up to expectations raised by seeing that one.

So far, So Good -
I just received this book and I have already started on the Stained Glass Window Afghan. I saw pictures of one another crocheter had completed and it was so gorgeous I just had to make one for myself. The other projects in the book look beautiful too, so I will probably be making some of them later on. The window afghan is coming along just fine. There are a few printing mistakes in the pattern, but nothing to really confuse you too much. I was able to interpret the designer's intent with no problem. Enjoy, and you'll have some really fine creations using this book.
