Anna Quindlen has composed a beautiful memoir to honor her Lab, Beau. She chronicles the life and times of Beau and reminisces about the growth of her family and Beau and the changes they all went through together. Exploring the way in which the love of a dog is unique and all-accepting, she takes the opportunity to broaden the view of unconditional love and the realities of life, love and family. That Beau was woven into the fabric of family is without question. While the story was not a long one, it was perfectly done. It also featured some wonderful photography that touches the heart.
Anyone who has ever been possessed by their dog and experienced the purity of love that only dogs bestow with no judgements, no expectations and constant forgiveness will love this "tail".

Life has been stressful lately and I was in need of a good cry. I just happened to pull this book off my shelf and it turned out to be the perfect tonic. Short, sweet and full of wonderful photos. Anyone who has experienced the love of a good dog will get something from "Good Dog. Stay."

too short, not much substance -
I was excited to read this at first, but soon became disappointed at the lack of substance. I wanted to know more about the dog and it's life with the family. I also didn't like how they wouldn't use the term "mommy" or "daddy" when referring to themselves. I'm my dog's "mommy" and my husband is "daddy". She is just as part of our family as a human child.

Why Not Just Sell A Picture Book -
I think the author could have done better just making this into a photo book, given that half of the book is photos anyway. Plus the book is tiny. If you're looking for a story you can sink your teeth into, this isn't it. It's mostly gristle, little meat, and if I'd wanted lots of photos of a cute lab, I could have hired a photographer for my own dog.
