My BIBLE for homemade baby food -
As with any book or reference guide a reader will never like everything a book has to offer. We all take the parts we want and will always leave the parts behind or not use the information on the things we don't agree with. With that in mind....
A lot of people who made comments regarding which foods had high nitrates on the book reviews and thus shouldn't be given to babies weren't educated in the organic foods vs. nonorganic foods and how all those chemicals change the actual chemical makeup of the fruit or vegetable. If you stick with mostly organic foods high nitrates isn't a concern.
Another thing the Amazon reviewers give low marks for is that the Super Baby Food book recommends giving babies some nuts and such before 1 years of age. While nut allergies are A VERY SERIOUS RISK and should be taken carefully, babies that are nursed vs. formula fed have already had traces of nut proteins in their mother's milk if their mommy's eat nuts and peanut butter and therefore have already been subjected to nut proteins. While babies only formula fed have never been subjected to nut proteins hence will be more likely to have a nut allergy and serious reaction to nuts.

This book has a lot of information about baby nutrition and features many recipes. I overall liked the book, but did not agree with the author on her extensive use of soy products.

This is a wonderful book! I am only about 35 pages into it, but it is FULL of wonderful information; from safety guidelines, to making your own food, etc. I am so excited about continuing to ready this book. It will be by your side for the next year or two when it comes to making your own healthy baby food. I LOVE all the recipes in the back. I have skimmed through a lot. It is very important for me to create the healthiest meals possible for my baby and my family. It is a very easy read! Buy this book!

I purchased this as a recommendation from my cousins, who used it for all 5 of their children. This is a great book for information not only about making your own baby food, but also other money saving recipes for things like household cleaners, baby wipes, play dough, etc. (one recipe I particularly get a kick out of is the one for play dough that uses dryer lint as a main ingredient!) It was about 3 times as thick as I thought it would be! This book has month by month food lists that follow your baby's development and helps you choose foods each day by using nutrients (ex. Vitamin C fruits, Proteins, etc.). Each day is built around Super Porridge, a homemade cereal with different add-ins. My only 2 issues with the book are these: 1) the copyright is older, so I'd be careful how much I trust the "what foods to add when" parts, as a lot of this has changed, although I think it has changed to the add MORE foods side. I pay attention to more recent food lists for what I add for my daughter, but I don't think that following the book's advice will do any harm. I think it just adds foods more slowly. 2) This book was written by a vegetarian (I didn't know this before I bought it), so there is very little about adding meat. This doesn't bother me right now, as my daughter is only 7 months and I'm not in a hurry to give her meat yet, but when I do I will have to find other sources for recipes. This still doesn't keep me from recommending it or make me sorry I bought it. It is filled with great info and recipes and I use it all the time!
