Great for a beginner -
I have always been a fan of Jansdotter's work, and this book is no different. This is a great book for a beginner. My one problem is sometimes things are left a little unclear, but more so in a way that I have to make an aesthetic decision, not so much that I can't finish the project. Not sure if this makes sense.

Not for beginners--instructions are confusing and incomplete -
Lotta Jansdotter makes lovely fabric and her aesthetic is modern and fresh. The book itself is beautiful, and the pictures of completed projects are especially appealing. The inclusion of patterns was a great choice.
I cannot recommend this book, however, because the instructions are incomplete and often downright confusing. I've completed 5 of her projects now. About halfway through each, I had to wing it because the instructions were inadequate for every project. I can't imagine that they've been tested with actual people attempting to work through them. User-testing would have helped this book immensely.

I first spotted this book in the gift shop of the Mercer House in Savannah, Georgia and couldn't put it down. I also couldn't afford it at the time.
I am not an experienced seamstress by any means. I took lessons in high school about 11 years ago, and just started sewing again. I don't know the verbiage, I HATE measuring, and I like quirky designs. This book is perfect for me.
Lotta includes a perfect combination of
1- pictures of the finished project
2- step by step instructions with illustrations
3- easy to use patterns cut out in the book jacket
This is a winning combination! For people who don't want to "waste time" measuring and getting everything perfect, it allows you to get started making art. I have made 3 of the oven mitts, the organizer (hang on the wall) and am excited to do more.
Lotta's designs are very modern, and the book is designed so that it's fun and easy to browse, which is important for people like me -- who are very visually-oriented.
If you're a fan of IKEA designs, and love quirky crafts, you will ADORE this book. I've looked around at tons of craft and sewing books, and Lotta is charming, clever and great at making sewing (and other crafts) accessible for the average Jane.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Also, if you are into printing, her other book is a lot of fun.
Good for a semi-first timer -
I haven't sewn a thing since I was in Home Ec class 20 years ago. I was looking for a book with really modern patterns, and I thought this was the best. I'm not planning to make clothes at first, just things for the home. The directions and pictures are easy to follow, and there are good patterns.

This book has a variety of cute and simple sewing ideas. Most of the projects are very functional and could be made for yourself or as a gift. They are everyday objects for use or organization. The instructions are pretty clear and it does include diagrams which are helpful, though they are hand-drawn.
This is comparable to Amy Butler's In-Stiches. Some of the projects are very similar. Both good books. Organized almost identically. Lotta Jansdotter's projects are completed in more subtle fabrics, but they could be easily jazzed up by your fabric choice. Some of Lotta's projects also feature optional embroidery or appliques.
I am a beginner, and I have been able to complete projects from this book and have been pleased with the results.
