Really nice, a little simplistic -
This is a beautiful book. But if I had been able to look through it first, I wouldn't have bought it; many of the projects are things I will never make (for example, a sleeping mask). I find it easier to buy the individual Amy Butler patterns for the things I really want to make.

This book has lovely, lighthearted pictures of sewing and craft projects made in Amy's bright fabrics. Yes, some of the projects are kinda silly, but I like silly sometimes. I also like the sunny, fun fabrics of Heather Bailey, Joel Dewberry, and Lila Tueller, among others. If they write gorgeous coffee table books, with silly craft projects in them, with big colorful photographs of the items made in their fabulous cottons, I will buy those books too.

I love this book. I'm new at sewing and I'm so excited to be able to make such cute things. This book has very clear and step by step instructions that anyone could follow. I've made the apron and placemats so far and plan on trying the sash this week!
nice pictures bad instructions -
Amy butler designs beautiful fabrics, and has some great ideas, but as for patterns this is not so good. if you want an idea book this is a great addition or as a picture book. the problems with the book are as follows:
most projects are lacking clear concise diagrams, and photo's of completed projects.
the instructions are not for beginners. if you have very little experience sewing, this is not for you. if you have no experience in pattern design or alteration you will be at a loss.
the instructions for the patterns assume you are an experience sewer, and as such will catch the necessary steps not mentioned. like cutting lining pressing for seams, how to turn seams, make corners, etc..
Many projects are lacking patterns completely, or the patterns are incomplete.

25 dollars for fabric porn? -
The font was minuscule, the diagrams were very difficult to follow and extremely wordy. The books was poorly edited, with missing projects, unfinished patterns, and diagrams placed willy-nilly. Yes, the photos of the fabrics are beautiful, but if I wanted fabric porn I would go on her website for free. I really got this for The Articles - no, really - and they stunk.
For a stylish Midwestern gal who draws inspiration from flea markets, one would think Ms. Butler would be more practical and understand her customers/audience a little more. After all, she wouldn't be Amy Butler without all the people who purchase her cack. Disappointing, confusing, underwhelming pictures, overwhelming instructions, unfinished and random patterns, and oh yeah - missing instructions. I want my 25 dollars back so I can buy 3/4 yard of her fabric.
