OK, it has a few nice pictures and one or two details that are of use to a first time aquarist but over all, it is of little help to anyone sensible enough to have done a small amount of research. The author is strongly opinionated and will preach rather than teach, especially when it comes to situations, species or topics he would appear to have little experience himself with. An example is when writing of fish suitable for a tank, he will relate all sorts of horror stories about his least favourite species and instead of suggesting methods for overcoming potential problems, he will admonish the reader to avoid that species of fish. This may not be a bad thing for a beginner, but there are few problems with keeping fish that cannot be easily overcome by a little research and sensible advice following, but the author of this book does not seem to advocate this approach and rather directs readers to follow his own advice as though he is the final opinion on any fish-keeping matter.
My copy now resides in the local charity book shop after a single reading. I doubt they'll get a dollar for it. There is no reason to buy or keep this book when there are far better alternatives for even the most clueless beginner.
