Sewing in the 21st Century -
After referencing the original (1976) Complete Guide to Sewing (Readers Digest) for 33 years, I decided to update my Guide when I updated my sewing machine - both new additions are wonderful! The New Guide has colorful illustrations and new techniques and tips I can access as needed. I highly recommend this excellent reference. My grandchildren's new duds will be spiffier than their parents' were.

The most important book in my library... - 
While I should not speak for later editions, my 1976 copy of "Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing" is the most useful, most referred-to book among my many, many stacks of sewing, tailoring, and corset making books. I'm sure, since the basics of hand and machine sewing change so little over the years, that later copies are just as comprehensive, making them just as good, if not better than my musty, tea-stained old volume. It's best suited for those who have a basic knowledge of machine sewing and pattern use, because it moves on quite quickly to more detailed subjects like matching stripes and plaids, how to do basic pattern alterations, and how to correct common fit problems. And that's just the tip! This book is bursting with easily followed information... even stuff you thought you knew how to do properly. I recommend it above any and all other "complete" guides. Perfect for a beginner! -
This book was exactly what I was looking for. It has in-depth instructions with illustrations for things that patterns gloss over like different types of sleeves, collars, pattern alterations, etc. If you want to know it, it's probably here and well illustrated. I'm probably returning the other book I bought because this has helped me so much.
One of the best sewing resource books available -
I had purchased this book, a couple of versions ago, and had used it faithfully to research "difficult" sewing problems. I have since passed on my older copy to an emerging sewing student/future fashion designer. The instructions are easy to follow, sometimes one only needs to "read" the illustrations to get the idea of how to do something. They have given better versions of how to sew some complicated things than other books on the market. I highly recommend that this book be in every sewers library.

This book is kind of boring but it has so much information. This book I can grow with. I learned from a beginner sewing book and now have this book to move me forward.
