I was dissappointed in this book. Information was too general. It seemed as if the author wrote a book summing up what any dog owner already knows.

I am getting a puppy rottweiler soon and thought this book would help with his arrival. The book has lots of great info from puppy to adult. I would recommend this book to anyone getting a dog. It is not breed specific but most stuff in the book applies to all breeds.

my favorite dog training book -
I grew up training animals in Idaho, especially horses and hunting dogs. When I got my first dog as an adult, while living in New York City, I bought several dog training books just to see what methods folks were recommending these days. This one was my favorite. It avoids 2 things which are really common: 1) training using rough methods, which is what I had learned and 2)the esoteric new-agey kind of advice very popular these days, which makes dog-training seem difficult or even like an inherent ability some people have and others don't (e.g., "you have to project the right energy to your dog" or "you have to learn how to act like a wolf"). This book makes dog-training seem really simple and common-sensical, which it is. Once you understand and try the methods it recommends you can hardly believe you didn't think of them yourself, they seem so obvious. It also makes training fun, for both you and your dog.
